Theory of Social Change
The social mission of Zima Pizza is to create great jobs to lower unemployment rates and improve the lives of our employees, to provide healthy but affordable meal options to local workers, and to kick off a healthy street food movement. Our social mission is implemented in every phase.
The problems with health are symptoms of poverty. Poverty alleviation is a goal we are addressing by creating an entrepreneurial environment with the employment of a manager, vendor, and young attendants. By creating jobs and therefore increasing the incomes of those we hire, we are effectively helping to alleviate poverty.
Barriers to entrance include obtaining sufficient certification from the government via meeting their regulatory standards as well as cultivating a relationship with the ministry of health. A possible barrier could also be accessing sufficient start-up capital. On top of these, corruption practices are a concern, however we are confident that by creating a branded network we can avoid these pitfalls.
The mission of our venture is essential to not only the people of Nyeri, but to the development of Kenya as a whole. As our food cart expands beyond Nyeri, our impact can increase exponentially through the hiring of new managers, vendors, and attendants.
